Baillieston - Action call for local crime hotspot

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Sat 6th Sep 2008

David

Many local people have told David Jackson that they are fed up of underage drinking on the streets and in local parks which leads to local people being intimidated in their own back yard.

David has asked the local police to give concentrated attention to these challenges.

David said: " The local parks are in a disgraceful condition mainly due to young people drinking. The parks are covered in graffiti and are regularly vandalised. I want to see more visible police presence at key times in areas like Garrowhill Park. That's why Liberal Democrats have repeatedly demanded 1,000 more community police officers across Scotland to help tackle such problems. Parks should be places for local families to enjoy. I have also asked the Council to ensure a more effective clear up of litter.

Glasgow Liberal Democrat MSP Robert Brown said: "The SNP Government have quite simply not taken the issue of police numbers seriously enough. It has been quite appalling to see how they have tried to wriggle out of this commitment. Liberal Democrats are campaigning to make sure local communities have the level of police service they need."
