The Scottish Liberal Democrats are delighted to announce that Natalie McKee has been selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate for the Drumchapel/Anniesland by-election on the 4th June 2009.

Natalie McKee Biography

Natalie McKee was born and attended school in the West End of Glasgow, graduating in Optometry from Caledonian University in 2001.

An experienced Lib Dem activist for several years, Natalie became involved in politics as a result of opposition to the Iraq War and has since been involved in a number of high profile local campaigns, including the fight against Labour's primary school closures and the local Post Office closures.

If elected, Natalie will work hard to tackle vandalism and anti social behaviour, creating a safer environment for people in Drumchapel and Anniesland. Natalie also wants to improve the quality of the local environment, with better recycling facilities and increased community involvement and empowerment in decisions affecting the look of the local area.

As an approachable and reliable local councillor, Natalie will work with local youth and health workers to provide more opportunities for young people. She is currently campaigning for increased funding for local youth groups, and for more centres like the Netherton Community Centre to be available to everyone throughout the Anniesland Drumchapel ward.

It's clear that both young and older people in the community could benefit from more facilities and neighbourhood interaction. Natalie will work to bring the community together, creating a sense of ownership and responsibility amongst everyone who lives in Drumchapel and Anniesland.

After a spell volunteering with Vision Aid in Africa, Natalie now works as an Optometrist in Glasgow. In her spare time, she volunteers once a week at the Wayside club, providing hot meals for the homeless.
