LIB DEMS LAUNCH GLASGOW NORTH EAST BY-ELECTION CAMPAIGN

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 14th Oct 2009

Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Tavish Scott MSP visited Glasgow North East today to launch Eileen Baxendale's by-election campaign.

During the campaign, the Liberal Democrats will focus on making Glasgow North East a safer community, how to protect and create jobs, and stop school closures in the area.

Launching the campaign, Mr Scott said:

""Labour have taken Glasgow for granted for decades. The SNP want to. Only the Liberal Democrats stand for change in Glasgow.

"Eileen's experience as a councillor and as a strong community campaigner will stand her in good stead during this by-election campaign.

"If people want something different and an MP who will stand up for their interests, then they should choose Liberal Democrat and vote Eileen Baxendale."

Glasgow North East candidate Eileen Baxendale added:

"Glasgow North East has been without an MP for 115 days now. That is a disgrace. I'm delighted to officially kick off my campaign, people in Glasgow North East should not have to wait a day longer for proper representation.

"People on the doorsteps are telling me that they're fed up with the old politics. They tell me that they have been let down by Labour. People in Glasgow want something different.

"They want an MP who can and will take action to help them. I could be that MP."
