SCOTT JOINS LIB DEM CANDIDATE IN GLASGOW NORTH EAST

12.00.00am GMT Wed 28th Oct 2009

Commenting on reports that BNP leader Nick Griffon will campaign in Glasgow North East today, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Tavish Scott MSP said:

"We have faith that people in Glasgow North East will see through and reject the odious values of the BNP."

Tavish Scott was campaigning with the Liberal Democrat candidate in Glasgow today. Mr Scott joined Eileen Baxendale outside the Royal Mail sorting office in the Springburn area of the constituency.

Commenting, Mr Scott said:

"Neither Labour nor the SNP can be trusted with Royal Mail. The Labour Government was warned that unless they made major changes to Royal Mail before starting along the route to privatisation the consequences would be serious. Now the economy and small businesses in particular are being hit by strike action.

"The SNP, who slammed the UK Government for handing over public contracts to Royal Mail's competitors have just handed TNT Royal Mail's £8million contract. This is total hypocrisy."

Eileen Baxendale added:

"The Springburn sorting office is a major employer. If the future of Royal Mail is in doubt, then this will have a serious impact on Glasgow North East.

"It's time for Peter Mandelson to bang heads together and sort this dispute out."

Ends.
